Senior Aquarist

As a Full Time Senior Aquarist, you will have a level of technical competency in caring for aquatic animals, animal welfare practices, behavioral management, water quality and life support systems, and perform other tasks that facilitate the daily operation of The Seas in EPCOT.

You will report to the Zoological Manager.

Responsibilities/You Will

• Perform daily aquatic animal care tasks such as food preparation, feeding and system maintenance, animal observations, and prepare for and help with animal health procedures and welfare assessments
• Complete end of day checks for malfunction or human errors that impact Life Support Systems (LSS) operation of small systems
• Respond to emergencies and partner with Leadership to resolve an issue and contact appropriate partners for assistance
• Facilitate work orders for repair of equipment, exhibits, and other area needs
• Maintain the area, exhibits and facilities in keeping with AZA standards and follow the AZA code of ethics, and animal standards
• Work with Zoological Managers as decisions are being made regarding animal health and wellness
• Remain current on the health status, food records, medical treatments and the veterinary plan for animals in the area

Basic Qualifications/You Will Have

• 3+ years working as an Aquarist/Biologist in a public aquarium
• Have or be able to obtain a valid Florida Driver’s License
• SCUBA Rescue Certified, SCUBA certified, CPR, and First Aid certified
• Perform daily in-water feeding using SCUBA
• Comfort handling and lifting equipment up to 60 pounds.
• Talent for developing partnerships while working with various teams across organization
• Previous facilitation and presentation experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of aquatic systems
• Previous experience organizing and conducting animal moves and transport of aquatic animals
• Prior experience working with chemicals and familiar with proper and safe handling practices
• Proficiency in basic computer functions necessary to operate in a Windows environment and other technologies
• Schedule availability to include weekends, variable shifts, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience working in aquatic husbandry at an AZA-accredited facility
• 10+ years’ experience working in aquatic husbandry at an non AZA-accredited facility or acceptable equivalent
• Previous Disney experience

Required Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Marine Biology, Aquaculture, or Zoology
